We collect personal information in the following ways.
When you place a pre-order or order. Through our checkout, we collect your name, billing and delivery address, email address, the details of the items you order and the personalised dedication text you choose to include. Payments are handled by Stripe. Your full card details are entered directly with Stripe and are never seen or stored by this website.
When you join the Nominal Roll. If you choose to be included in the Nominal Roll, we collect the name you wish to appear in the printed book. See the dedicated section below, because this involves your name appearing permanently in a printed publication.
When you sign up to the newsletter. We collect your email address and, where you provide it, your name, so that we can send you updates about the book and related news.
When you contact us through a form. If you use a contact or enquiry form on the site, we collect the information you choose to submit, such as your name, email address and message.
Automatically, when you visit. Like most websites, our hosting collects standard technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you view. This is used to keep the site running, secure and working correctly.
We use your information only for the purposes set out below.
To process and fulfil your orders, including taking payment, arranging delivery and providing customer support. Our lawful basis is the performance of our contract with you.
To include your name in the Nominal Roll, where you have asked us to. Our lawful basis is your consent.
To send you newsletters and updates, where you have signed up. Our lawful basis is your consent, and you can withdraw it at any time by using the unsubscribe link in any email.
To meet our legal obligations, such as keeping records of sales for tax and accounting purposes. Our lawful basis is compliance with a legal obligation.
To keep the website secure and functioning. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in running a safe and reliable site.
When you place a qualifying pre-order, you may choose to have your name printed in the Nominal Roll in the back matter of the first edition of the book. The list is arranged alphabetically by surname.
Your name will appear exactly as you provide it, so please check it before you submit.
Inclusion is your choice. If you would prefer not to appear, simply do not opt in, or contact us to be removed.
You can change the name shown, or ask to be left out, up to the cutoff date of 31 July 2026.
After that date the list is finalised and sent to print. Once the book is printed, names cannot be changed or removed, because they form part of a permanent published work.
Payments on this site are processed by Stripe. When you pay, your card details are collected and processed directly by Stripe under their own security standards, and are not stored on this website. Stripe processes your information as described in their own privacy policy, which you can read at stripe.com/privacy.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing. We share it only where necessary to run the site and fulfil your order, namely:
Where your name appears in the printed Nominal Roll, it becomes part of the published book and will be visible to anyone who reads it.
Some of the providers we use to run the site may process your information outside the United Kingdom. In particular, Stripe, which handles our payments, operates internationally. Where information is transferred outside the UK, it is protected by appropriate safeguards, such as the UK's international data transfer agreement or other approved arrangements, so that your information continues to receive a similar level of protection to that required under UK law.
This website uses only the cookies it needs to work. At present that means a single session cookie, which keeps your visit secure and allows features such as the checkout to function correctly. We do not use any advertising, marketing or analytics cookies, and we do not track you across other websites.
When you reach the payment step, Stripe sets its own cookies to help prevent fraud and keep the transaction secure. These are necessary for the payment to work safely.
Our fonts are served from our own server rather than from a third party, so visiting the site does not share your information with an outside font provider.
If we add analytics or other non-essential cookies in future, we will update this policy and ask for your consent before doing so.
We keep your information only for as long as we need it. Order and transaction records are kept for as long as the law requires for tax and accounting, normally six years. Newsletter information is kept until you unsubscribe. The Nominal Roll, once printed, is a permanent part of the published book.
