News from Billy MacLeod MBE on his debut novel, A Sapper's Story - 1940 - Retreat to Dunkirk
After years of thinking about it, I've written a novel. It's called A Sapper's Story - 1940 - Retreat to Dunkirk, the first in a series called A Sapper's Story, and it comes out on 1 October 2026.
It follows a young Sapper, Donnie MacIver, and the men of the 59th Field Company, Royal Engineers, through the retreat to Dunkirk in the summer of 1940. Donnie is invented. The units around him, the ground they fought over, and what they were asked to do are real.
